“You live by the moon,” someone said to me recently. I’m not sure if it was a compliment, but I don’t care. There are worse things to be accused of than “living by the moon.”
And anyway, it isn’t true. As much as I think astrology is cool, I don’t actually live by the moon.
I live by something else: my own inner guidance. Or, at least, I try to.
But living by your own inner compass isn’t always easy. It requires discipline. It requires that you shut out the noise; that you acknowledge your feelings.
Most importantly, it requires you to pause and get still.
And that’s one of the real reasons I like to look at the moon. Or, come to think of it, plants, and stars, and the ocean, too. Looking at them requires many of those skills.
To look at anything deeply, you have to pause and get real still.
This is also, incidentally, why having some rituals can be so helpful. By rituals, I don’t mean anything religious or elaborate—I just mean any little activity that helps you get grounded, calm down, and check in.
