Maybe it’s the dark, long nights. Or, that the new year is just around the bend. Whatever the reason, December always seems to spark an intense mix of feelings— nostalgia, reflection, and exhilaration. And, also: grief, stress, anxiety, and anticipation.

I’ve noticed this amongst so many people that I love. Lately, it seems everyone’s swinging between joy and despair. There’s been comparing and lamenting. Setting goals and analyzing. Freaking out, hunkering down, and making plans.

They’re not the only ones. I’ve also been feeling all of the above.
